Why it matters
Gross margin shows how much room there is to pay for your own organisation and make a profit. Because it is a percentage, you can use it to compare periods, branches and clients, regardless of their size.
Where it goes wrong
Revenue and labour costs often fall in different periods: the hours were worked in September and invoiced in October. If you put revenue on the invoice date next to labour costs on the work date, the margin fluctuates while nothing has changed. Also record whether you steer on gross margin or contribution margin.
How Dashly calculates it
Dashly calculates gross margin per month from your accounting, using the same date for revenue and costs. If you want to steer per hour or per placement, use margin per hour or margin per placement.
